Divisional Playoff picks

For sake of making an idiot of myself, here are my predictions for this weekends NFL games.

Seattle 13 Washington 7
New England 24 Denver 12
Indy 28 Pittsburgh 35 (I know, I can't believe I am being so dumb as to call this outcome!!!)
Carolina 21 Chicago 10

I really don't like Manning. I don't why. He is amazing....but I just seem to have to root for him to lose.

What we want from Politicians

This post is mostly for the Canadian readers who still come to this page although I hope everything can get something from it.

From talking to some of my "Mother Cannucker" friends, it had become apparent to me how much apathy exists with regards to the upcoming Canadian election. It appears that people are going to vote based on who they dislike the least. I am sure that this is exactly the same as what happened in the US election when it was the battle of "anybody but Bush" vs "anybody but them damn liberals".

So why do we hate our politicians so much. Well, I have written about this before and when I did, I stuck up for these politicians. However, I do have to say that sometimes they don't help themselve and the Canadian election campaign seems to be no exception.

I therefore urge anyone who wants to see an example of what a poltician should be to click here

The speech here is one that Robin Cook gave shortly before the commencement of war. Now the point is not the fact that the speech was anti-war but rather the class with which it was made. Just to give it a bit of context, Mr Cook was one of Tony Blair's most trusted advisors throughout his years in government. As the war drew closer and closer he never once spoke out against it. This was despite the fact that he felt so strongly against it. Rather, he stood loyally with Mr Blair and tried to persuade him in private that war was not the answer.

It was only on the eve of war when Mr Cook finally knew that his efforts were in vain, that he made this speech. But look at the way he did it. He doesn't try to use it for his own political gain nor does he try to destroy anyone elses career. Rather he simple states his own views and that he can't go on in government in the circumstances.

Unfortunately Mr Cook died recently and British politics is the poorer. To see why, I urge you all to watch the speech which you can also do from the above link. It is about 10 minutes and it shows why we shouldn't give up on all politicians just yet.

Are you ready for some football!!!

The NFL wildcard playoffs start in 60 mins, so for what it is worth here are my picks.

1. Washington 13. Tampa Bay 10. The Skins are my team to root for throughout the playoffs. Plus, I thought that last week their defence really stepped up when needed and they just seemed to make the plays that matter. Plus, its Gideon's team. I gotta support him .

2. Jacksonville 7. New England 31. I still the Pats have a lot to offer this month.

3. Carolina 21. New York Giants 28. Can Eli go further than his brother has before. Don't be surprised.

4. Pittsburgh 17. Cincinati 14.

Wow, if these games are as close as I am predicting, we are in for one great weekend of football.

The Greatest Game??

According to the National Laboratory in New Mexico, football (soccer) is more exciting than Hockey, baseball, American Football and Basketball.

That is if you guage excitement by the amount of upset victories that you see. That is not an unfair guage as, lets all be honest here, what would be the point in watching sport if you were fairy certain that you knew who would win.

Basically, scientists reviewed the results of 300,000 games played over the last century. Apparently football is most likely to produce the most "upsets", closely followed by baseball. Hockey and Basketball were next on the list with the good old NFL coming in last place.

Strange isn't it that the league that prides itself on the fact that any team can win "on any given Sunday" is the most predictable.

So I guess football is the greatest game although I can't help but wonder why cricket wasn't in the study!!
